Signature preparation
Crop a Signature Without Cutting Off Pen Strokes
A large sheet of blank paper can make a small signature difficult to read after resizing. Crop the unused margins first, then decide whether you need different dimensions or a smaller file.
Start with a clean scan or photograph
Use a clear image of your own signature on the paper required by your form. Keep the camera parallel to the page, avoid shadows and check focus. This guide does not change the handwriting or certify a signature. If the original is blurred, sharpening and compression cannot recover every missing stroke.
Use automatic bounds as a suggestion
- Open the signature cropper and select your JPG, PNG or WebP.
- Choose “Suggest crop around ink”. The tool looks for darker pixels and leaves a small margin.
- Inspect the top, right, bottom and left crop percentages. Shadows, dust and ruled lines may also count as dark pixels.
- Create a preview. Check the start and end of the signature, dots and loops, and any faint upward or downward strokes.
- If a stroke is missing, reduce the crop percentage on that edge and create another preview.
Resize only after the framing is correct
Cropping changes the image's width and height. If your form asks for exact pixels, open the cropped download in the pixel resizer. Fit is often useful for preserving the whole signature inside a wider frame. Stretch can alter its proportions, so inspect the result carefully.
If the instruction is only a file-size limit, enter a maximum in the cropper or use the 20 KB compressor when that is the actual limit. A 20 KB setting is an option, not a universal rule for banking, recruitment or admission forms.
Do not forget a minimum
A simple signature can encode into a surprisingly small JPEG. That can be a problem if the form also has a minimum size. Use the minimum and maximum size checker on the finished download. If it is too small, start from a higher-resolution original or change permitted export settings. Adding blank data does not make handwriting clearer.
Keep your original
The cropper works in your browser. It does not redraw the signature, remove a background with AI, or send the image to an editing server. Saving a copy lets you compare the exported result with the original before using it. The tool's JPEG export can still introduce compression changes; visually review it before submission.
